Florida Electric Bike Laws

Three-class law · State parks: Where bicycles allowed

Florida adopted the three-class system in 2020 (ch. 2020-69, Fla. Stat. 316.003 and 316.20655); an e-bike has working pedals and a motor of 750 watts or less and has the rights and duties of a bicycle. State law sets no minimum age, but riders and passengers under 16 must wear a helmet. Senate Bill 462 (ch. 2025-149) lets cities and counties set minimum ages and require riders to carry photo ID; Governor DeSantis vetoed Senate Bill 382 on June 25, 2026, which would have capped e-bike speed near pedestrians.
